Job summary
The foreman/woman will support the day-to-day supervision and coordination of road and drainage rehabilitation as directed by the Project Engineer and technicians. He/she will support the CORE engineer and Technicians in site management, technical training and instruction in the local language, technical reporting and monitoring of the labour-based interventions involved in the road’s rehabilitation.
Key Duties and responsibilities
The foremen shall be required to undertake the following;
- Assist in conducting engineering surveys for the selected roads
- Assist in the management of all construction work on site; roads, and structures like culverts and execution of works within the set time frames as set by the project,
- Lead the workers in technical execution of road rehabilitation activities as guided by the engineer or the technicians,
- Prepare daily activity report including works done and attendance register of the workers attending to the road work activities,
- Coordinate and arrange workers into groups during the on-the-job training as directed by the engineer or the technicians
- Support in Occupational, Safety and health by ensuring adherence to Covid-19 guidelines and decent work norms,
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should possess the following competencies
- The ideal applicant must be a Kenyan National of demonstrable good conduct ready to take work in Meru town area,
- The applicant should be able understand English and express themselves in public,
- The applicant should have basic construction related knowledge especially in road construction and should possess a diploma or certificate in Civil Engineering or Building and Construction.
- Proven experience in working and managing casual laborers in road works with demonstrable ability to coach sub-ordinates,
- Strong empathy skills and genuine care and respect for needs of others especially women and people with special needs,
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, sound judgment, planning and team building and facilitating skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player.
Duration of Engagement and Terms of Remuneration
The Foremen (Male & Female) will be engaged continuously daily basis for a period not exceeding 40 days. The successful candidate will be offered a competitive daily remuneration per day for the days of work.
