Job Summary

The principal objective of this position is to;

(i) Work with Project Engineer; to ensure the quality of works is done according to the standards required by KURA and other relevant key stakeholders,

(ii) Ensure the engineering design principles are followed when designing the roads to be constructed during on the job training

(iii) Supervise day to day construction works using the labor based techniques including management of the workers on site.

Tasks and responsibilities

Under this Project, the Project field technicians shall carry out the following tasks:

i) Ensuring the roll-call of all the site workers are up to date and supervise the construction works on the assigned road(s).

ii) Keep records of all the tools, materials and equipment on site and work with the Project Engineer to estimate tools, materials and equipment required on site; also monitor the quality of suppliers.

iii) Assist Project Engineer in planning and conducting field surveys to locate new sites and analyze details of Project sites.

iv) Assist Project Engineer in drafting detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for Projects and to ensure conformance to standards in accordance to Kenya Road Design Manuals and Guidelines for Low Volume Roads

v) Report maintenance problems occurring at Project site to the Project engineer and negotiate changes to resolve system conflicts.

vi) Assist Project Engineer in conducting materials test and analysis, using tools and equipment procured under the project, and applying engineering knowledge.

 

DEGREE OF EXPERTISE AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Project Field Technician should have the following qualifications and experience:

1. Diploma in civil engineering, construction management, Building & Construction, Project  management or any other related field from a recognized institution;

2. The Field Technicians should have at least 5 years’ work experience in support of Community development projects in Kenya;

3. Work experience with implementation of labor based or labor-intensive Projects in Roads sector using Do-nou technology among others technologies will be added advantage;

4. Experience in drafting reports, site record keeping and other relevant documentations;

5. Experience in managing of Projects with multi – stakeholders engagement;

6. Strong analytical and writing skills and track record in producing relevant training, communication and knowledge materials;

7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and experience in organizing and facilitating consultations and workshops.
