Job Summary: The Business Expert will be responsible for providing technical and programmatic support in business development and entrepreneurial skills for the community people selected under the project.

Tasks and responsibilities: Under this Project, the Business Expert-shall carry out the following tasks:

  • 1. The consultant will conduct business, managerial and entrepreneurship skills training to the formed and registered SMEs; the training will focus on business startups, and management of SMEs. The business startup and management skills training will include basic book-keeping, accounting, budgeting, procurement, enterprise management, market assessment, monitoring, business target setting, etc., all of which are essential for entrepreneurship and businesses.
  • 2. Guide and provide technical assistance to the target groups, to form and register the SMEs through the online e-citizen platform or Huduma c entre. The consultant will also guide the formed and registered SMEs to acquire the following, Business registration certificate, Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) certificate, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN certificate and opening of bank account for the registered SMEs.
  • 3. Guide and provide technical assistance to the formed and registered SMEs on developing proposal or Business plans, for the sub-grant application.

a)   Additionally, the consultant will update the eligibility criteria and fiduciary procedures if necessary for the SMEs to get the sub-grant; and train the SMEs together with the Project account on the eligible and non- eligible expenditure for the Sub grants.

 DEGREE OF EXPERTISE AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Business Expert will have the following qualifications and experience:

  • 1. At least Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, or a related field with a focus on business development and entrepreneurial skills.
  • 2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in development sector (NGOs, CSO), and experience with community development, and/or youth/ entrepreneurial skills inclusion related project.
  • 3. Good experience in project management, advocacy and knowledge management.
  • 4. Good understanding of community driven projects. 
  • 5. Initiative and creative in solving problems with strong facilitation and analytical skills
  • 6. Strong ability to work both independently and in a team
  • 7. Experience in managing of Projects with multi – stakeholders engagement.
  • 8. Strong analytical and writing skills and track record in producing relevant training, communication and knowledge materials.

Good organizing skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills and experience in organizing and facilitating consultations and workshops; Good experience in supporting communities in forming and registering SMEs through e-citizen or Huduma Centre
